The garden, 9 September 2026

One photograph from the 2026 season.

A spider hangs head-down in its orb web on an overcast 9 September — glossy black abdomen scalloped down both sides with butter-yellow lobes, legs jet at the tips and orange-red where they meet the body — the silk beaded and glinting in flat gray light.
