Bergamot, 28 July 2026

One photograph from the 2026 season.

Wild bergamot on 28 July, each head a shaggy ruff of tubular lilac florets throwing their stamens clear of the mouth and the spent ones already down to a bare green knob, the ground behind falling away to grass burnt half tan in midday sun.
