The photographs
Week of 1 JuneThree pots in a line on 5 June, each drier than the one before it — the compost in the middle one shrunk away from the rim into a leathery collar, and in the last a single thin feathery shoot leaning right across bark and grit.Week of 8 JuneFeathery seedlings crowded together indoors on 12 June, every leaf a flattened fan of hair-fine segments held out in a single plane, and the two front pots each with a brown fiber pot sunk into it and going rotten.Week of 15 JuneBouquet dill on 17 June, each leaf cut three times over into thread-fine segments that all lie out in one plane, so it reads as a flat feathery fan rather than a tuft, on hollow stems sheathed papery where they clasp, in bright even light.
