Week of 6 JulyThree seedlings on 7 July spaced evenly round the rim of one tub, each still a low rosette of narrow glossy leaves, the newest growth bright green and the oldest lower leaves yellowed away to pale lime, under a flat damp overcast.Week of 6 JulyCandlelight peppers on 9 July, three crowded into one bag over bare mix, their leaves lit through to a translucent yellow-green where the low sun reaches and flecked with kaolin — the wet paving beside them printed all over with the shadows they throw.Week of 6 JulyThree seedlings on 9 July spaced around one bag, each a small rosette with a tight knot of new growth still shut at the crown — every leaf green down the middle and edged irregularly cream to yellow, and one or two of them gone almost wholly pale.
