The photographs
Week of 22 JuneA Santaka pepper on 23 June, eight or ten narrow blades drawn to fine points and several of them cupped or twisted, still beaded with rainwater, a knot of much smaller leaves balled up at the crown, set off to one side of an otherwise empty bed.Week of 6 JulyOn 9 July a sparse plant curled in on itself, leaf after leaf cupped inward with brown scorched tips and one blade bleached pale across the middle — and in the crown a short dried brown stub where the growing point gave up, dew along every edge.
