The photographs
Week of 1 JuneTwo Cherokee Green tomatoes crowded into a single planting on 7 June, each flopping away from the other so the middle lies bare — white hairs standing out along every stem, a few leaves nibbled, everything faintly wet under flat overcast light.Week of 6 JulyA Cherokee Green tomato truss on 12 July, still all closed buds — five or six narrow bristled green points, and one flower in the middle of the cluster gone black on its stalk — every stem and sepal thickly furred with silvery hair against the shade.Week of 7 SeptemberTwo Cherokee Green tomatoes hanging from one thick hairy stem on an overcast 11 September, pressed together so they touch down the middle — both slightly flattened, softly creased into shallow lobes and green all over, without a trace of blush.
