Week of 1 JuneA Del Tonet tomato on 7 June, leaning off to one side, its light yellow-green leaves fringed with fine white hairs along every margin and rib and speckled here and there with small dark flecks, the grass behind it bleached right out in the flat overcast.Week of 13 JulyDel Tonet tomatoes on 17 July, seen from inside the bush with leaves crossing the lens so only the trusses are sharp — squat matte green globes, finely furred, under hair-fringed sepals — orange nasturtiums out of focus beyond the stems.Week of 20 JulyDel Tonet tomatoes on 20 July, small round fruits in loose clusters with faint darker striping and fine droplets still standing on every skin, just watered, and shot from inside the row so the hairy main stem softens right across the frame.Week of 3 AugustDel Tonet tomatoes on 4 August, fifteen green globes in strings of four and five, each dusted with fine pale hairs and sitting in a calyx whose narrow lobes have twisted into tight hooks, a hand at the corner holding the branch back in dappled sun.Week of 7 SeptemberA Del Tonet tomato on 11 September, seen from below against pale blue sky and white cloud — broad-shouldered, a little heart-shaped and tapering to a pointed nub, an even pale yellow-green — with fleshy, hairy sepals curling up from its top.
