Week of 20 JulyMountain Fresh Plus tomatoes on 20 July, still small enough to stand clear of one another with only a few toothed leaflets each, one place in the block holding nothing at all, the noon sun cutting crisp shadows across flowering clover.Week of 3 AugustA Mountain Fresh Plus tomato on 5 August, pale apple-green with its calyx lobes curled into tight hooks, and on the truss just above it flowers nodding with their petals bent right back off a fused anther cone, shot low against blue and white cloud.Week of 24 AugustTwo Mountain Fresh Plus tomatoes on 26 August side by side on one thick hairy stem, both broad and shallowly ribbed across the shoulder, each with its calyx curled down tight over the crown rather than spread out flat.Week of 21 SeptemberMountain Fresh Plus tomatoes on 26 September, the ribbed one at center still deep olive over the shoulders and grading through bronze to a dull orange blush on the right cheek.
